Surge testing in the Borough

Posted: 22/04/2021

A number of cases of the COVID-19 South African variant have been identified in south London.

We are making additional testing sites available to support people to get tested locally. Extra testing facilities will be open from Monday 12 to Monday 26 April.

Collecting a test or ordering a home test kit online is the quickest and easiest way to access a test.

Who should get a test

Around 1 in 3 people who have COVID-19 do not have any symptoms and can spread it without knowing.

We are therefore encouraging everyone over the age of 11 who lives, works in or travels through Wandsworth to book an asymptomatic PCR test. Only PCR testing can be used to detect variants. Rapid lateral flow tests are also widely available but can only determine positivity for COVID-19, not the specific variant.

You should get a test even if you:

  • Have no symptoms of coronavirus
  • Have had a vaccination for coronavirus
  • Have tested positive for coronavirus previously (but not within the last 90 days)

If you have symptoms you should book a test by visiting the NHS website, using the NHS COVID-19 app, or calling 119.
